Thank you, University of Northampton

Thanks to the generosity of the University of Northampton, a donation was made by members of the Trainers Network Northamptonshire (TNN) to the mental health charity, MIND.

Members of the Staff Development Department, Frank Jordan and Deborah Forbes, kindly hosted the June 2016 TNN members event. Frank delivered an informative session on the Vision for the University, including the move to the waterside in Northampton town centre.

After that, attendees enjoyed an experiential session on communications called Reality Check, facilitated by Frank and Deborah. It was amazing to experience just how quickly communications could become confused, and strained. The need for listening, visioning, and focused questioning became evident the more we worked on it. The exercise can be used in leadership, communications, culture change, project management, course review, …a useful resource for facilitators.

The second session was facilitated by Corporate Resilience Coach Jonathan Pittam from MindBodyConsulting, on ‘Mindfulness to improve your resilience’. He shared the reasons for stress, and covered 3 valuable techniques, including mindfulness. Copies of the handouts are on this site, thank you to Jonathan for his generosity. Comments after the session were about feeling refreshed, recharged and energised.

The event ended with a tour of the campus, including looking at plans for the new campus.

Members paid a total of £175 to attend, and the cheque was presented by Adrian Green of The Development Company, to host Frank Jordan on the day. Adrian said “Thanks to the generosity of the University of Northampton, we can make a small difference to a worthy cause.”

Frank Jordan, Head of Staff Development at the University of Northampton, said: “The University of Northampton has a number of Changemaker + Challenges, which commits the Institution to supporting the betterment of local, regional, and international communities; Changemaker + Challenge two focuses on supporting Northamptonshire to become the leading county in the UK for Health and Wellbeing. Thanks to the generosity of the Trainers Network members, we’re able to make a donation of £175 to MIND; supporting their work to supporting those who need to access mental health and wellbeing services.”

Kay Buckby, who runs the TNN, said “When we set up in 2010, the first event was facilitated using the conference cafe approach. We focused on our vision for our network and raising money for charities was one of our goals. We are delighted to be able to help such an amazing charity.

This is the 3rd donation we’ve made, bringing our charitable fundraising to over £500.

One of my goals for the future of the network is to do more giving back to our community, as I think there are organisations in Northamptonshire that would benefit from our knowledge, skills and experience. If anyone shares my vision, and would like to work with me to make it happen, please get in touch.”.
